*WE HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE THAT SOME TRAINING PROVIDERS FOR ENTRY LEVEL QUALIFCATIONS OR CPD ARE FALSELY ADVERTISING STA APPROVAL ON THEIR WEBSITES TO ADD VALIDITY AND VALUE TO THE COURSES, PLEASE CHECK WITH THE STA OFFICE BEFORE BOOKING ONTO A COURSE*

Certain qualifications, advertised as meeting National Occupational Standards do not meet our stringent membership criteria, however, to enable you to benefit from our affiliate member scheme, we will work with you to provide the necessary support to identify a progression route to full membership.

Unfortunately, The STA do not accept any qualifications issued by Stonebridge Associated Colleges, Distance Learning Academy, Open Study College, BSY Group, NCFE, ABC awards, UK Public College, Active Health Group or Active Health Awards.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with details of your course provider, instructor and assessor names along with the number of practical days studied to check eligibility as there is a variance between delivery/assessment processes. 

  • The STA do not recognise Level 6 Diplomas or Master Diplomas that do not appear on a qualification framework for any membership category. 
  • Membership levels for the Sports Therapy Association are based on the industry agreed National Occupational Standards (NOS).

Student

If you are enrolled on an entry level qualification (not available if you have an existing practitioner qualification, i.e. if you are studying a BSc 
but already hold a level 3,4 or 5 vocational qualification or studying to a higher level from a Level 3 Sports Massage)

The following membership categories also require evidence of a current first aid qualification that is HSE compliant and includes a practical CPR element.  If you work pitch-side it is advisable to have a specific pitch-side trauma qualification.

Affiliate

Level 3 Sports Massage Therapy issued after 2014. (Level 3 awards issued between 2003 and 2014 may meet full membership category requirements and members can apply from 01 Febraury 2022 to have their qualification assessed against the current standards.

Full

Level 4 Sports Massage Therapy, Level 4/5 Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy, HND Sports Therapy, FdSc.

Graduate

BSc or MSc Sports Therapy, Sports Rehab, post graduate Sports Physiotherapy.
