Ep.55 'Over 60s Resistance Training' with guest Chris Tiley

Many of us are aware of the multiple benefits of strength training, but how confident are we using it with older patients/clients? How skilled are we in adapting strength training around disability and injury?

In Ep.55 of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast, host Matt Phillips of Runchatlive chats with special guest Chris Tiley, creator of nevertoooldtolift.com. Chris has worked in hospitals in both the UK and Canada, in rehabilitation units and with Sports teams including British Parasnowsport.

Chris' passion for helping people achieve what they consider impossible is immense, and his website has rapidly become a hugely popular source of valuable insight and information. In this episode, Chris uncovers many of the misconceptions out there regarding resistance training for the over 60's, the barriers that both patients & clinicians have, and how we can improve our knowledge to ensure they use resistance training as a way to reduce risk of injury and improve daily quality of life.

His ebook 'Never Too Old To Lift' (available on his website), is a 62 page wealth of information, explaining in detail the process of creating, adapting and progressing strength training programs for the over 60s. It includes:

  • How to stay motivated by identifying goals to use to build the training program around.
  • Choosing exercise variations that directly benefit activities already done on a daily basis.
  • How to make exercises currently found difficult more manageable.
  • Learning to document workouts to enable monitoring of progress with ease.
